Totem Media currently consists of associates with expertise in a range of fields such as design, architecture, audiovisual technology, science, educational methodology and historical research. 

We often find ourselves in the position of being ‘outsiders’ – both literally and metaphorically. We actively embrace this role. While we are a professional group of designers, writers, educators and technical wizards, we are more like a troupe of performers, artists, storytellers, and conjurers travelling from village to village. We seek to entertain and enlighten. We are are also South Africa's premier museum and exhibition design company.

As curious outsiders we offer a fresh and sometimes unusual perspective that is different from that of in-house museum teams, government officials and people from within institutions. We take advantage of the fact that we can risk more in terms of innovative ideas than those who are part of a local or corporate culture.

In the past few years Totem has produced five exhibitions for the Woza eNanda route outside Durban; an exhibition for the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela; a book, Mining the Future for the Royal Bafokeng Nation; a documentary film, Playing the Game the Bafokeng Way again for the Bafokeng; a scoping for two cultural precincts for the Bakgatla-ba-Kgafela in the Pilanesberg and Botswana; developed a new science methodology for the Department of Science and Technology.
